Changing tastes of an Ardalani prince

An Ardalani chronicler narrates Xan Ahmad Xan's return to Ardalani Kurdistan. Xan Ahmad had spent many years at the Safavid court, marrying a Safavid princess and returning to his father, Halo Xan, as a man with new preferences and tastes. The people of the region are known by this custom to this day:

He [Halo Khan] ordered that they put a handful of raisins and two handfuls of walnuts as well as two stones for cracking the walnuts in front of each guest. Seeing the people eat the raisins and crack the walnuts, Khan Ahmad Khan got embarrassed, for he lived for long time among the Qizilbash and brought with him outsiders [from the Safavid court]. He sent some men to the reception to prepare colorful trays full of halva and other sweets for the reception. This enraged Halo Khan and he said to Khan Ahmad Khan, “These sweets embittered me. You disgraced the customs of Kurdistan!"
